Directors UK members Douglas Mackinnon and Gareth Edwards both won awards this weekend, at events that took place in Bristol and London.
Douglas Mackinnon won best director at the Royal Television Society West of England Awards on Sunday, for his work on Sherlock: The Abominable Bride (Hartswood Films). The award was one of several for the TV serial, which also picked up awards for best drama, best cinematography and best composer. The event, which took place at the Bristol Old Vic, also saw prizes go to Jago: A Life Underwater and Planet Earth II. Visit the RTS Bristol site for a full list of winners.
Meanwhile, in a ceremony at London's Roundhouse, Gareth Edwards was awarded best director at the Three Empire Awards, for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. The award was one of three snapped up by the picture, which also won best film, and best actress for Felicity Jones. Upon receiving his award, Edwards quipped: "This is not the first time we’ve infiltrated the Empire and caused an upset."
