FAQs

+ What is associate membership?

Associate membership is open to those with a director credit on audio-visual works such as short films, commercials, corporate videos and video games, or those who are just starting out as a director in the TV industry.

We offer the reduced annual price of £78 for a period of three years, after which we would ask you to pay the full annual price of £156. We would also ask you to show us confirmation that you are still working as a director.

Associate membership offers annual access to most of our services and benefits. This is offered at a reduced price for those who don’t receive payments from our distribution schemes. Associates have access to legal advice for help with their director contracts only. Legal templates are also available online.

If an associate becomes eligible for payments from our distribution schemes, we will let them know and offer them the option to upgrade to full membership.

+ What is full membership?

Full membership is only open to directors with a principal director credit on a screened feature film or TV programme.

Full membership offers annual access to all our services and benefits. It also includes permanent registration on our distribution schemes, so you’ll always receive distribution payments even if your annual subscription lapses.

Full members have access to legal advice for disputes and queries, as well as for help with their director contracts.

Directors aged 65 and over will receive full membership at half the price.

+ How do we verify your credits?

For full members, we will have a record of your TV/film credits on our database. Our membership team will email you to verify this list.

For associate members, our membership team will email you to request confirmation of a director credit. This could be something in writing from a third party, such as a letter from an employer or a copy of your contract. Alternatively you can provide confirmation of festival screenings. Please contact us if you have any queries about what to provide.

+ Are you eligible for payments from our distribution schemes?

We collect payments for secondary usage from two sources – UK broadcasters and other collecting societies across the rest of Europe. Different rules may apply to each broadcaster or society, so please bear in mind the following criteria:

Directors of an eligible programme would qualify for payment if they are credited as a principal director according to our hierarchy.

Productions that meet all the following criteria are eligible under our UK Distribution Scheme:
  • Programmes commissioned by a signatory broadcaster to the UK Rights Deal (BBC, ITV, Channel 4, Channel Five, S4C and BSkyB)
  • Programmes produced after 1st July 2001
  • Programmes not made under a staff contract issued by a UK Broadcaster
Feature Films are not covered under the UK scheme.
Under the Foreign Distribution Scheme the restrictions mentioned above do not apply, however eligibility of works is determined by the individual distribution schemes of the foreign society reporting to us.
