The winners of the 2024 Academy Awards were announced at the ceremony on Sunday 10 March. In our round-up below, we look at all the directors, including Directors UK members, who received accolades.
Oppenheimer took home an impressive seven awards, including Best Actor in a Leading Role and Best Actor in a Supporting Role, Best Cinematography, Best Film Editing and Best Picture. Director Christopher Nolan also received the award for Best Director.
Meanwhile, it was fantastic to see The Zone of Interest, directed by British director and Directors UK member Jonathan Glazer, win the prize for Best International Feature Film as well as for Best Sound.
Hayao Miyazaki won the award for Best Animated Feature Film for The Boy and the Heron, Wes Anderson won Best Live Action Short Film for The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar and the Best Documentary Short Film prize was awarded to The Last Repair Shop directed by Ben Proudfoot and Kris Bowers.
The prize for Best Documentary Feature Film was received by 20 Days in Mariupol, which was directed by Mstyslav Chernov. Read Mstyslav’s conversation with fellow director Waad Al-Kateab about making the documentary and the role directors play in telling the stories of our time.
