Directors UK is supporting the the recently launched Support Women Filmmakers coalition, spearheaded by Women and Hollywood's founder and editor Melissa Silverstein.
The initiatve which, as the name suggests, will support and champion women filmmakers is involved in a panel session at this year's Cannes Film Festival entitled "Women Make Great Movies: Strategies for Success" which will be moderated by Melissa and will feature speakers including Anna Serner (Director, Swedish Film Institute), Cameron Bailey (Artistic Director, Toronto International Film Festival), Kate Kinninmont (MBE Chief Executive, Women in Film & TV (UK)) and Jasmila Žbanić (Filmmaker).
Cannes has seen massive underrepresentation in the number of women-directed films they include in competition, as this infographic highlights. The #SeeHerNow campaign is aiming to highlight this under-representation during the Cannes Film Festival (13th - 24th May) and they are asking supporters to sign up to their ThunderClap campaign - more details can be found here.
