Two Directors UK members, Rubika Shah and Kat Wood, have been named among Screen International’s “Stars of Tomorrow” for 2017 — a spotlight for the most promising new actors and filmmakers in the UK and Ireland.
Rubika Shah is the director of the short documentary White Riot, which premiered at Sundance this year. Her credits also include Spike Lee: Do The Right Thing, 25 Years On and Liberty De Liberty. Rubika is currently working on a feature-length version of White Riot, and is taking part in the Directors UK Inspire scheme.
Kat Wood’s short film Home, starring Maggie Gyllenhaal and produced by Kevin Spacey, was the first UK winner of the Jameson First Shot Competition. Kat is currently developing Stine, her debut feature as a director, with backng from Creative England. Kat is also John Bradbourne awardee and has recently completed the Channel X North children’s drama directing programme with Directors UK.
Meanwhile, directors Anwar Boulifa, Ed Lilly, Nathaniel Martello-White, Sarmad Masud, Harry Michell, Rungano Nyoni, Rory Alexander Stewart, Remi Weekes and Leanne Welham were all also named on the list.
