The 90th Academy Award nominations were announced on Tuesday 23 January – and we are pleased to report that two of this year’s Best Picture nominees have been directed by Directors UK members.
Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri and Darkest Hour, directed by members Martin McDonagh and Joe Wright respectively, are both among the nominees for the prestigious Best Picture award. The films joining them in the Best Picture category are Call Me By Your Name, Dunkirk, Get Out, Lady Bird, Phantom Thread, The Post and The Shape of Water.
Meanwhile the Best Director category was packed with talent: Greta Gerwig was nominated for Lady Bird, becoming only the fifth ever female nominee in the category; Jordan Peele, nominated for Get Out, is only the fifth black Oscar nominee for Best Director.
