Biography
Mikey is an award-winning filmmaker who was BIFA longlisted as Best Debut Director for his feature film Mind-Set (2022), which also won Best UK Feature at MANIFF. In 2002 Mikey was selected for a $40,000 scholarship from television producer, David Jacobs (Dallas) that allowed for a move to Los Angeles where he would take MFA courses in Screenwriting and Directing at UCLA. While in LA he also worked as a production and acquisitions intern at New Line Cinema under exec producer Mark Ordesky (The Lord of the Rings). Mikey won a Scottish BAFTA award for Best First Time Writer in 2008 and in 2009 he placed as a runner-up in the British Feature Screenwriting Competition which was judged by Alan Parker, Kenneth Branagh and Stephen Woolley. He has been mentored in his film-making career by Ros Borland (The Last King of Scotland) and Emmy Award nominated writer/director Christopher Monger (Temple Grandin). In 2014 he was selected by Ffilm Cymru Wales for their Net.Work Director’s Lab where he developed his work with Oscar nominated writer/director Lenny Abrahamson (Room). His BFI funded short film Natalie (2017) world premiered at EIFF where it was nominated for Best Short Film, and he was also selected for EIFF’s talent lab. Mikey has directed prestigious UK acting talents such as Kate Dickie (The Witch), Jason Isaacs (The Death of Stalin), Steve Oram (Sightseers), David Hayman (Top Boy) and Julia Deakin (Spaced).
