Biography
Luca Nappa is an award-winning Italian writer-director based in London. He writes and directs fiction and his debut feature script, Deep South, was recently selected as the UK Winner at the JETS Initiative within the Berlinale. The project caught the attention of major commissioners and sales agents for development and was shortlisted for the London Production Finance Market 2024.
Luca is a member of DIRECTORS UK and was recently commissioned to write and direct a short film for the prestigious London Royal Central. The film went on to win the Best Comedy Film Award at the PORTLAND COMEDY Film Festival 2024, became a Semi-finalist at the BIFA-qualifying Kino London 2024, and was official selection at the BFI-funded MiraBan UK, Matera Film Festival, and Ischia Global. It was later acquired for streaming by MYMOVIES, Italy’s largest film platform, and had its global premiere on the acclaimed YouTube channel OMELETO in January 2025.
His previous short film, Warriors of Sanità, enjoyed a highly successful festival run, winning the Grand Prize at the OSCAR/BAFTA-qualifying Rhode Island Film Festival, the Rai Cinema Award at the Giffoni Film Festival, and the Best Southern Italy Short award at the Sele d’Oro Film Festival. The film was acquired by RAI CINEMA for distribution on its platforms and later picked up by OMELETO, garnering over 47,000 views at the time of writing.
Trained by renowned acting coach Miranda Harcourt (Big Little Lies, The Lord of the Rings), Luca has developed extensive expertise in working with non-trained and young performers. He is currently mentored by BAFTA-winning director Jonny Campbell (Westworld, Dracula), whom he shadowed on the set of his STUDIOCANAL feature film, Cold Storage.
