Biography

Kiosa Sukami is a BIFA long-listed, award-winning British-Congolese Writer & Director from London. He is known for his cinematic realism approach to film-making and has had works screened at several BAFTA & Oscars® qualifying film festivals.

Kiosa recalls the first time he fell in love with films at a tender age of 7, when he and his family travelled from Kinshasa to the UK to seek asylum from the Second Congo War. To teach him English, his mother would buy him VHS tapes from local car boot sales and he would sit in front of the screen for hours reciting the dialogue from his favourite movies.

Fast-forward a few years later, Kiosa went on to attend the Bournemouth Film School. His graduation film based on police brutality "LONGFIELD DRIVE", starring Chance Perdomo (Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, Gen V), Harry Eden (Oliver Twist) and Khali Best (Blue Story, EastEnders), was screened in competition at the London Short Film Festival and the Festival du Cinéma Européen in Lille, France. It went on to premiere online via the UK's leading platform for urban entertainment, GRM Daily.

After a couple of years working in-house at various production companies, he went on to direct his follow-up short film "YOLK", which screened in competition at BAFTA accredited British Urban Film Festival and Bolton Film Festival. It premiered online on one of the fastest-growing independent youth platforms for film in the UK, Million Youth Media, where it achieved over 35,000 views.

Kiosa's latest short film, "A LETTER TO BLACK MEN", was long-listed for the Best British Short prize at the 2022 British Independent Film Awards, won Best UK Short at the 2022 Manchester Film Festival and was also nominated for the Best UK Short jury prize award at the BAFTA & Oscars® qualifying 30th Raindance Film Festival. The short film premiered online in 2023 and achieved over 100,000 views in 6 weeks!
