Roxana Vilk is an award winning UK/Iranian director/writer working in music, film and TV Her work often explores the themes of human rights, cultural identity and migration. She has made films in the UK, USA, Lebanon, France, Iran, Norway, Turkey and Iraq.
She is an Associate member of BAFTA, a member of Directors UK, MENA Arts UK, Brown Girls Doc Mafia and the Musicians Union
She is currently in development for directing her first fiction feature film 'Cheetah' produced by Gareth Ellis Unwin / Bedlam Productions

She has been commissioned to create work for MTV, BBC, AL JAZEERA ENGLISH, AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL, BRITISH COUNCIL, COMMONWEALTH YEAR OF CULTURE, VISITING ARTS, WELLCOME TRUST, LITERATURE WITHOUT BORDERS, and WE THE CURIOUS She has won several awards, most recently the Unchosen Award at Encounters Festival Bristol, Best Experimental Film at NRFF Amsterdam, 2nd Prix du Jury at Cannes Art/ Film Festival, Best Artist Award at London Renaissance film Festival, best music video at Austin Music Festival.
BackgroundShe received a scholarship to study an MFA in film directing at Edinburgh College of Art under the tutorship of Noe Mendelle (director of Scottish Documentary Institute) and Roxana’s first short film Tehran Backyard was nominated for a Royal Television Award and won the Kodak Prize at NextFrame Film festival US. She was nominated for a Margaret Tait Award for her Commonwealth Year of Culture FilmsShe wrote and presented the BBC World / BBC 2 Scotland “ Iranian Enough?” – a 50-minute documentary in which Roxana explored her identity as a British-Iranian.
Roxana was co-director and story producer for MTV World Rebel Music Iran “ The Music Never Stopped” a TV documentary about Iranian musicians in exile. Filmed in Turkey and USA.
She was Director/Producer of Poets of Protest, a six part TV series for Al Jazeera English, Poets of Protest reflected the poet’s view of the change sweeping the Middle East through its intimate profiles of six contemporary writers.
Her film Hopscotch – based on a poem documenting first-hand harassment and sexual violence against BAME women in Scotland, funded by the Scottish Government, AMINA and Rape Crisis Edinburgh was selected for screening at Women of The Lens Festival London and was shown by the Lord Provost in the Scottish Parliament.
