Biography

Liberty Smith is a filmmaker based in Bristol, UK. Liberty studied Media Practice at the London College of Communication (University of the Arts) from 2007 - 2010, with her graduation short documentary winning Best Doc at the IWM Film Festival. Part of the prize was an internship at October Films, where she stayed for two years. Liberty continued working with independent production companies creating broadcast documentaries until 2022, for a range of channels including the BBC, Channel 4, SKY and National Geographic as well as commercial work including the NHS, Hospice UK, Lotus, Land Rover and Discover Northern Ireland. Since becoming freelance Liberty has been developing her own projects as an independent filmmaker, and her film What Are You Looking At? (2022) was shown at film festivals internationally, notably at Hot Docs, DOC NYC, RIIFF, Ann Arbor and Hot Springs.
