Biography
Shekhar is a physically disabled and autistic British Asian - Indian filmmaker. Shekhar was recently one of five participants in the BFI Elevate Initiative for Disabled Filmmakers and Writers. He returned to work in September 2023 with two remotely directed short films, 'Dyktator' and 'Struny', shot in Poland while Shekhar was recovering from spinal surgery in a London Hospital. Before hospitalisation, Shekhar's debut feature 'Running With Crutches' is a critically acclaimed psychological drama about isolation and self-shot during Lockdown, which premiered at the Adelaide and Sydney Film Festivals. He is developing a second feature with Vertigo Productions, Australia. His multi-award-winning short films have featured at Tribeca, Bilbao, New York, Toronto, Durban and London. Shekhar has shadowed directors on Casualty, Channel 4’s Pushers and recently Sister Productions’ The Dream Lands. While shadowing, Shekhar has been part of the All3Media-sponsored NFTS TV Drama Course and has developed a taut political thriller, which All3Media companies and executives are currently reading outside the All3Media umbrella. He has been busy completing his new short, which is currently in post-production.
