Biography
Clare Sturges is an award-winning screen director whose films convey powerful human stories through cinematic visuals, evocative detail and a close attention to film craft. Nature and loss are important motifs in her work.
Clare was the first woman to win the BAFTA Cymru Breakthrough Award – in 2015 – for Sexwork, Love & Mr Right, which she produced and directed. She won a second BAFTA Cymru Award in 2016 for My Brief Eternity, which was also longlisted for BIFA and EE BAFTA short film awards. Her shortform drama The Arborist was nominated for a BAFTA Cymru Award in 2020. She was nominated for the BAFTA Cymru Director Factual Award in 2023 for Apple TV+ / BBC documentary Charlie Mackesy: The Boy, The Mole, The Fox, The Horse and Me.
Clare has recently directed episodes of BBC continuing drama. She is an Associate Member of BAFTA and a member of Directors UK. Her films have screened at BAFTA and Oscar-qualifying festivals around the world.
