Biography
Ian Allardyce graduated with a 2:1 in Film Studies with Drama from University of Kent. From there he travelled out to work as an intern in Mongolia’s nascent TV and Film industry. Before completing work for UNICEF, BBC, National Geographic, Mongolia’s first reality talent TV series and an ultra-low budget horror film, he returned to London’s advertising industry.
Working his way up through the ranks of UK production he is now a successful Shooting PD and DOP. In 2021 he directed his first feature length documentary for NewsUK. In 2022 he will be directing a feature documentary about the 200 year anniversary of The Sunday Times; with contributions from Steven Fry, Don McCullen, Emma Tucker, Christina Lamb and many others.
He still maintains a strong connection with Mongolia. He produced and directed the indie-music narrative feature; "They Sing up on the Hill”, which premiered at Asia's most prestigious festival, Busan (BIFF). Not bad for a £20K budget!
A previous short "The Wonderful Flight" won Best Drama at The Smalls/Panavision Awards and now plays on Amazon Prime. His other shorts have also screened at Busan, London Short Film Festival, Locarno, Manchester, Cardiff, Tokyo Short Shorts and many others.
Ian is also an experienced Director of Photography having shot the $700,000usd Mongolian historical comedy, “Single Ladies 4” on 2 x Arri Alexa Minis. He also lensed the short "Kintsugi" for students of Central School of Drama and Speech on a Sony Venice.
Ian runs Really Nice Films Ltd and has two feature documentaries in development.
