Justin Purefoy

Justin is a Director, Producer and Cinematographer with extensive experience in both natural history and documentary filmmaking. His nearly two-decade career has centered around Africa, filming in locations that include South Sudan, Congo and Kenya. His work explores the intersection of human/wildlife co-existence and conflict. 

This experience includes Justin’s first film ‘Night Commuters’ following the story of children affected by war in Northern Uganda. In 2010 Justin directed and produced a documentary about South Sudanese wrestling in Bor on the shores of the white Nile. Other highlights include working alongside National Geographic explorer Mike Fay filming the first pictures of wildlife migrations in South Sudan after 21 years of war. And in 2017 Justin won an RTS award for his BBC series set in Scotland. 

Justin has directed feature documentaries and wildlife series for BBC, PBS and SKY and worked with Sir David Attenborough and Ewan Gregor. His latest three part series for SKY Nature is called ‘Chasing the Rains’ and will air in 2023.

Justin’s projects strive to  inspire social change and environmental action by highlighting untold stories.
