Biography

Simon J Frith learnt his craft as a teenager making short films on Super 8 and 16mm in the late 1980s. This gave him a real understanding of making films to tight budgets and taught him the disciplines of efficiency and problem solving. For the past twenty years he has been mainly rooted in the industrial film market, producing, directing and editing hundreds of films for corporate clients, but has also produced and directed other genres of film including the occasional music video and in 2013 released a feature length documentary, In Search of Our Throwaway History. Continuing to demonstrate his diversity, 2014 saw him return to his narrative based film roots with an award winning short film, Eva's Legacy. His latest project, Under the Radar: The Mike Edmonds Story is Simon's second feature documentary.

No ordinary film biopic, Under The Radar follows Mike from his mischievous Essex childhood through a 40-year acting career, encompassing scene-stealing roles in Time Bandits, Return of the Jedi, the Harry Potter franchise and a host of other blockbusters, stage plays and iconic TV series. A natural talent and a consummate professional who’s willing to sacrifice comfort (and occasionally safety) for the sake of a role, Mike has turned disability (achondroplasia/dwarfism), with all its challenges, into ability. He’s also the glue that held a hundred casts together. A joyful cinematic journey. 2019
