Biography
I am a multi award winning director, writer & producer who has delivered hundreds of compulsive rewarding, funny, jaw dropping, disparate moments of screen time for UK and international audiences. For many years I solely produced, but as my script writing developed, so did my desire to direct and that is where, I believe, I excel - taking that piece of greying plasticine and moulding it into Venus De Milo… The production formats/developments with which I become involved are rarely simple. For example, I was appointed by Channel 4 to make an array of educational series using the genre of popular culture to appeal to students of all ages. One such example was 'Extra' - a series of situation comedies for modern language learning which I directed, as well as writing and producing, in French, German, Spanish and English - the latter as a co-production with RAI TV in Italy. Extra received an RST Award, the European Basel Karlsruhe Award and a BAFTA nomination. Each series continues to be broadcast worldwide. On another occasion, I was tasked with developing, writing and directing a long running prime time TV series that would not only appeal to and entertain millions of Bangladeshi viewers but would give them significant access to English language learning. The series was rewarded with 23 million viewers for Bangladeshi TV and another 10 million via Zee TV in the UK on Sky. The series was re-commissioned and it turned the comedian Kamal Bayazid into a household name in his home country. As a director, I relish taking a script (whether it is my own or someone else's) and transferring the written word onto the screen, working closely with technicians and creatives to milk the best from the project and teasing the excellent performances out of experienced and fresh-faced casts alike. I have proved that I can work in any climate, no matter how challenging the conditions, with all abilities and nationalities of crew, working with a single camera or on a multi cam shoot. I also have an enormous respect for the work of editors and endeavour to applaud their work whilst maintaining my own weave in the cut. At present I am at the post production stage of producing a feature length film and working on the third of a trilogy of novels - The Seasons Trilogies. It is my aim to adapt these as screenplays within the next two years, and then take them forward onto the small or large screen.
