Biography

I'm an award winning producer director cameraman who makes documentaries with credits on ITV, CH4, and the BBC. I've worked with talent and contributors at home in the studio and all around the world, I've filmed on all kinds of formats from 16mm, svhs, beta, digi, 1080 4k and 360* cameras and can edit on platforms from iMovie to Avid. Planing and preparation I think is key to understanding the outcomes of a story - I like to plan prepare and script for a scene as much as we can but am always looking to be surprised by the organic nature of a documentary as well and love that something quite unexpected can occur at the very last minute and usually after the last minute, Im very keen on observational film making, lately have been really getting into drama docs again a la Penny Woolcock hybrid type affairs. I have a key eye for detail and a good ear for dialogue for which to build a good story around - understanding the dynamics of a good sequence and how it fits in with the overall story arc are really important - coverage is also very important and I pride my self on getting a wide variety of interesting shots which always makes the edits easier. I enjoy being a part of the doc process and whilst knowing when to be the fly on the wall I also know when to call the elephant thats sat in the middle of the room. I have about 80 broadcast credits in total, and have won a few awards, the shows Ive directed have been RTS & BAFTA nominated - I really don't mind saying how much I would like to win a BAFTA, although the Strangest village in Britain was part of the BAFTA winning series 'only Human' - but you know what I mean. I believe in creating an atmosphere of trust with our crews, contributors, execs and commissioners I think this its all about honesty and openness - in return I hope to help to make very honest, touching and funny films. I love working with big and small teams alike working to script or observationally depending on the nature of the sequence, programme and series. I like to show our films to talent and contribs before broadcast and believe in a solid after care, if needed. I Love my Job! and want to cover as wide a variety of subjects as possible. I've filmed births and deaths and a bit of that stuff that comes in between.
