Rebecca Johnson is a London-based writer/director who trained in Fine Art. For more than a decade, she ran film projects with young people in Brixton, using theatre and improvisation techniques to create short films. Her award-winning short TOP GIRL was a big hit on the festival circuit and paved the way for her debut feature HONEYTRAP, the story of a girl who becomes involved in a gang murder. HONEYTRAP premiered at the London Film Festival in 2014, where Rebecca was nominated for Best British Newcomer. It was released theatrically in the UK to critical acclaim, including four-star reviews in The Guardian (where it was Film of the Week) and Total Film. It has an 86% score on Rotten Tomatoes. HONEYTRAP had its US premiere at SXSW in 2015. It secured US distribution with Ava DuVernay’s Array, and is currently available on US Netflix. In the UK it has screened on Sky and London Live. For the last three years Rebecca has been directing TV in the UK and US and continuing to develop her next feature and TV projects. Rebecca was a Screen International Star of Tomorrow in 2009 and was mentored by Paul Greengrass under the Guiding Lights initiative. In 2016, she was named one of Hollywood’s top 30 rising female directors on the Alice Initiative list.
