Biography

I have just filmed, produced and directed a 25 min film for the Witness strand of Al Jazeera about a human rights activist in Western Sahara. I directed a short film for the BBC on a Sri Lankan doctor working in Huddersfield and have also shot and directed various short films for NGOs in Bangladesh, Burkina Faso and the Philippines. I have worked as a researcher/AP for True Vision and Rockhopper TV. I am fluent in French and I have done the hostile environment course and worked in very difficult countries, such as DRC, Zimbabwe, Sierra Leone, South Sudan and Burma. Whilst working for True Vision I also found excellent characters for a UK and Africa documentary in development. I came up with excellent story ideas for Rockhopper TV and found engaging characters for shoots in Cambodia and the UK. I have an excellent understanding of what makes a good story and this was recognised recently, when two of my ideas were selected for pitches at Sheffield DocFest (CBA WorldView and Mini Meet Market). When working as a researcher/AP for Bruce Dunlop Associates on a documentary on female football referees in DRC, I found three generations of female football referees and helped write an excellent treatment which was commissioned by ESPN. I get on well with people from all walks of life and always develop good working relationships with both crew and contributors. I can shoot on Canon 5D, Canon 60D and Canon EX 305 and have basic FCP skills. I have good contacts in some of the most interesting countries in the world, including Ethiopia, Somalia, Cambodia, Pakistan, Sudan, Mali, Burma and Burkina Faso. I have an excellent understanding of media law, copyright issues and sound editorial guidelines. I also have experience of various BBC systems, such as ENPS, DAVE, AUTOROT, ELVIS, DAVINA and TOPCAT.
