Biography

Mary McGuckian Has Been Producing, Writing And Directing Feature Films Independently For Over Twenty Years.

Her Films Include: Her 'auteur' films have been presented at festivals worldwide both in and out of competition on many occasions including Tribeca and Sundance in the US, Locarno and Venice in Europe, and Edinburgh, London and Galway in her home countries. In 2011, her only comedy garnered a Best Narrative Feature winner at the Ojai film festival (The Making of Plus One). In 2007, she also won Best Feature Film at The San Diego Film Festival (Intervention) but takes most pride in the numerous accolades picked up by the actors who have collaborated with her.   In 2009, she was the recipient of the Annual Achievement Award from the Women's International Film and Television Awards in Los Angeles. 
 Her films include: 


 WORDS UPON THE WINDOW PANE (1994/95) – adapted from the one-act play by WB Yeatswith Geraldine Chaplin, Ian Richardson, John Lynch & Jim Sheridan which was selected for Venice, Sundance, London and Tokyo Film Festivals among others. 


 THIS IS THE SEA (1996/97) – adapted from her stage play "Hazel", with Richard Harris, Gabriel Byrne, Samantha Morton & John Lynch. 


 BEST (1999/2000) – which was co-written with husband and actor, John Lynch, starring John Lynch, Ian Bannen, Jerome Flynn, Ian Hart, Patsy Kensit, Stephen Fry & Rodger Daltry. 


 THE BRIDGE OF SAN LUIS REY (2004) – which she adapted from the Pulitzer Prize winning novel by Thornton Wilder with F Murray Abraham, Kathy Bates, Gabriel Byrne, Geraldine Chaplin, Robert De Niro, Harvey Keitel, John Lynch and Jim Sheridan. 


 She spent four years making THE AMORALITY TRILOGY PLUS ONE a series of improvised films which consisted of: 


 RAG TALE (2005/6) – devised in collaboration with Simon Callow, Lucy Davis, Kerry Fox, Rupert Graves, Ian Hart, David Hayman, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Cal MacAninch, Malcolm McDowell, Bill Patterson, John Sessions, and Sara Stockbridge. 


 INTERVENTION (2006/7) – devised in collaboration with Charles Dance, Donna D’Errico, Colm Feore, Rupert Graves, Gary Farmer, Kerry Fox, Ian Hart, Andie MacDowell, Russell Means, Bill Patterson, John Sessions, Sara Stockbridge, and Jennifer Tilly. 


 INCONCEIVABLE (2007/2008) – devised in collaboration with Lothaire Bluteau, Geraldine Chaplin, Donna D’Errico, Colm Feore, Kerry Fox, Andie MacDowell, Elizabeth McGovern, Jordi Molla, Amanda Plummer, John Sessions, Sara Stockbridge and Jennifer Tilly. 


 THE MAKING OF PLUS ONE (2008/2009) – also devised in collaboration with Lothaire Bluteau, Geraldine Chaplin, Donna D’Errico, Michael Eklund, Suzan-Lori Parks, Jordi Molla, Amanda Plummer, John Sessions, Sara Stockbridge and Jennifer Tilly. 


 MAN ON THE TRAIN (2011) – is a remake of Patrice Le Conte’s 2001 film by the same name with Donald Sutherland and Larry Mullen Jr.     THE NOVELIST (2012/2013) - an Experimental Performance Piece About A Writer Struggling Between Artistry And Addiction Starring Eric Roberts to be released by GATHR USA   THE PRICE OF DESIRE (2014/2015) - The Story Of The Inception Of 20th Century Architecture Told In The Context Of How Le Corbusier Completely Effaced The Phenomenally Inspirational And Influential Contribution Of Eileen Gray’s Completely From History  With Orla Brady In The Title Role and co-starring Vincent Perez, Francesco Scianna and Alanis Morrissette to be released via THE LITTLE FILM COMPANY   A GIRL FROM MOGADISHU (2018/2019) – The harrowing true story of Irish FGM activist Ifrah Ahmed, who was trafficked to Dublin from war-torn Somalia in 2006 and has since become arguably one of the world’s top activists against FGM starring Aja Naomi King and Barkhad Abdi with a score by Nitin Sawhney   THE BRIDGE OF SAN LUIS REY REMASTERED –  A reworking of her original 2005 adaptation of Thornton Wilder’s classic Pulitzer Prize winning novel including 20 minutes of previuosly unseen footage -
