Biography
I am proud of my northern, working class roots. I worked as an actor for twenty years, before setting up Big Buddha Films in 2006. My latest BFI Network short film, Safe, has screened at over 40 film festivals worldwide and won ‘Best Screenplay’ and ‘Best Director’ at the BAFTA qualifying Aesthetica Short Film Festival and is currently picking up many awards and nominations on the film festival circuit. My critically acclaimed, feature documentary Still Loved, was BIFA long listed. I Directed Series 2 (20 eps) of The World According to Grandpa which was nominated for a RTS Award and a Rockie. I Directed 2 eps of Sister Boniface Mysteries for BBC Studios/Britbox. I have directed several episodes of Coronation Street, Emmerdale and Doctors. I am a full voting member of BAFTA and BIFA and champion women in the film and TV industry.
