Biography
From writing jokes with Lady Ga-Ga to filming in The Yukon surrounded by wild bears, my 20 years of work in production have been extremely diverse. I’ve made films across multiple genres including documentary, music, comedy, branded content and narrative film.
I have written and directed award-winning short films. My most recent was funded by the BBC and BFI premiered on opening night at the London Film Festival. My previous was selected for the Austin Film Festival and my debut won Directors Choice at Rhode Island International Film Festival.
My work in television has influenced my philosophy as a director of narrative film but I am acutely aware that it is very difficult to make the transition from non-fiction to fiction.
I’m drawn to stories that celebrate the differences of others. I want to create stories that unify and inform, that make us laugh and cry and most importantly come together. I think it’s really important - but I don't want to come across as preachy about it.
Each of my narrative films shares this universal theme: being an outsider, about not having a voice, yet desperately wanting to be understood. All of these themes resonate with us all: a profound need to be understood.
My visual style is innovative, combing techniques from both fiction and non-fiction - I want to make films using non-actors, blurring the line between documentary and narrative. I’ve worked recently with Miranda Harcourt, Nicole Kidman’s Acting coach which was extremely insightful.
