Biography

Originally from the West Midlands, Samantha is a director working across film and television. She started out as a fine artist until the storytelling bug led her into making films. Her work centres around strong female characters, black comedy and drama. Sam made her TV drama debut on C4 with single drama, Call It A Night, written by Bronagh Taggart and starring Andrew Simpson, (Notes on A Scandal,) as part of the Coming Up series. Sam has directed drama for BBC1 on Holby City, Doctors, featured on the BBC Hot New Talent list and was selected for the DUK, High End TV Drama Directors Placement, working on Call The Midwife, with Neal Street productions. Sam has made award winning short films including Breathe and Copier, screening at numerous international Festivals, with premieres at Edinburgh IFF, Rotterdam IFF, Cucalorus and London Short Film Festival, to name a few. Sam is developing two original TV series: Lovelocked, with producer Michael Eagle-Hodgson at Free Bird Pictures and Bite, with writer Nicola Mills, a transformative-gender, revenge thriller. She is also working on her first feature film: a psychological thriller Orchestra as a writer-director. Sam is a graduate of the National Film and Television School, where she was awarded a scholarship from the David Lean Foundation. Her graduation film Love Letters, was nominated for a Royal Television Society, Television Award.  She is also an alumni of Guiding Lights, INSPIRE, BFI NETWORK X BAFTA Crew, Network EIFF and Microwave. Sam is proud to be one of the founding member of Cinesisters, the female director’s collective.
