Alex Hartman

BAFTA nominated director Alex Hartman is an experienced, multi-skilled film, commercial and TV director. His love for movies and the multitude of stories they tell started in 1988 at the age of 11 when his grandfather took him on the set of Batman. “I’ll never forget the feeling when I first stepped onto the streets of Gotham City, it was magical! Gigantic lights highlighted the looming sets and hundreds of crew, cast and extras scurried around the smoke filled streets and capturing it all were these massive cameras. The comic books that I loved reading had literally come to life…at that moment an obsession was born!” Alex has filmed across the globe from the townships of Cape Town to the streets of Harlem building a reputation for combining strong, compelling story telling with stunning visuals to a smorgasbord of brands, platforms and productions alike. You’ll find him in his element on set, confident directing anything from green screen mo-cap, to intimate single camera interviews to big budget multi-cam productions. Alex manages to bring the best out of people with his fiendishly hard work ethic and wicked sense of humour gaining him the trust and respect of talent, crews and clients throughout his career. His drive and passion extend beyond directing; they apply to every aspect of filmmaking so if you can’t find him behind the monitor or discussing action with talent he’ll be found picking up a camera, editing in post or making you a much needed cup of tea!
