CHARLIE STUART IS A SCOTTISH TELEVISION SERIES PRODUCER AND DIRECTOR. I've been a broadcaster since 1982, starting first on radio then joining television in 1989. My first productions were in current affairs, working with on-screen reporters usually against tight deadlines. In those days we shot and cut on tape with just one pass at the edit - start at the beginning and finish at the end. You learn how to deal with stress and focus on storytelling. In 1992 I was in China and started a long passion for international documentary making. I'm the kind who gets dumped in arrivals with minimal kit. Not the sort who travels with a minibus of crew and a Hilton loyalty card. But then ten years after that I had a spell making comedy dramas. And after that a run of screen biographies interviewing celebrities (RTSni nominated). In one year I was embedded with an ambulance service; made a show about the legendary Dick Emery and spent four months filming in the Falklands. I love my job. You just never know what adventure the next phone call will bring.
