Biography
Born and brought up in Beijing, director-writer SUN Yixi gained BA Film and Television Production from the Communication University of China and MA Documentary by Practice from Royal Holloway, University of London.
Yixi worked as a producer and editor at WildAid London for 5 years where she completed 20 episodes of documentaries and public service advertisements. Since 2012, she worked as general manager at Chinese Arts Space (now Chinese Arts Now) for four years where she produced several theatre performance, art exhibitions, and other social events related to British Chinese, British born East-Asian artists and UK-China cultural exchange. Additionally, she founded Filming East in 2007, the first Chinese language film festival in the UK.
In 2017, she completed her directorial debut feature ‘Susu’, a psychological thriller evolving around two Chinese girls’ haunted house experience in an English countryside mansion. As a UK-China co-production, the film has met audiences through many audience film festivals worldwide and has been sold to several territories. In 2018, she finished writing TV drama IN SEARCH OF LOST TIME (17 episodes), INTRIGUE AND LOVE (4 episodes), and film adaptation treatment of LEGEND OF THEC HEROES. In 2019, she directed mini-series TASTORY (6 episodes) for Youku. Her original scripts HANGING ISLAND and THE REMARRIAGE are in development and are currently selected by project markets such as Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival and Project Finance Market at London Film Festival.
