Richard Pengelley

Richard Pengelley is an award-winning writer/director. With a background in photography, Richard cut his teeth making music documentaries before moving into promos, music videos, commercials, short films, content films for brands and scripted comedy. 

In his tv work Richard was nominated for a Rose D’or and a FOCAL award for ITV’s Orange Playlist and later made branded films/content & commercials for FORD, SONY, ADIDAS, PEPSI, TESCO, EUROSTAR, HIVE, NotOnTheHighStreet, SUGRU and the BBC to include a few. His Sony Ericsson – Puppy Pulling Power ONLINE FILM made the Cannes lions 2009 Cyber Lion shortlist for viral video and was Winner of the Bronze Award, Epica 09’ Online and the Winner of the Bronze Award - One Show Online Branded Entertainment in 2010.

Richard’s short film “Running Girl", a Super 8 Straight8 short film, was selected & screened at the 2009 London Super8 Soho Rushes short film festival. His short film “No Ball Games” (2012) had a great festival run including screenings at Cannes, Clermont Ferrand, Raindance, East End Film Festival, Aesthetica, Razorreel, Fantastisk @ Lund and was subsequently picked up for distribution by Origine Films in France, along with a cinema release and is now available on Vimeo on demand.

In his comedy work he has shot sketches, adverts, pilots, scripted series, title sequences, online content and has recently directed his 4th series on the award winning and critically acclaimed scripted comedy series, Crackanory for Tiger Aspect. Crackanory is a satirical, twisted and darkly funny celebration of storytelling, written by some of comedy's most ingenious writers and performed by a great ensemble of comedic actors. Crackanory has gained numerous broadcast and tv nominations and also won a 2015 broadcasting press guild award.

While at Tiger Aspect Richard also shot the teaser episode of Murder In Successville, which was subsequently commissioned by BBC3 and went on to win a BAFTA. He also directed Sam Simmons’s series “Wallstud” - a Comedy Blap for Channel 4. Richard also shot a SKY COMEDY SHORT “The Rug” with Jason Byrne feat’ Jason Byrne, Amy Huberman & Sean Flanagan - exec produced by Sharon Horgan for Merman Productions.
