Biography

Came to TV from BBC radio and to radio from years in the theatre as both an actor and director. For most of my time in the industry I have specialised in history documentaries/drama documentaries but I enjoy the challenge of other genres particularly those which give me an opportunity to move beyond the constraints of formats. I specialise in what Hamish Mycura of Nat Geo describes as 'head work' - in other words making sense of complex issues and finding ways to turn them into powerful and fascinating programmes. This has taken me into the worlds of witchcraft, the Holocaust, terrorist hostage taking and most recently into explaining the real significance of New Testament accounts of Jesus' life. My two hour Nat Geo special on 'The Jesus Mysteries' is being shown in 179 countries world wide at Easter 2014. A vivid imagination, finely-tuned visual sense and a bizarrely encyclopaedic knowledge of history give me a head start when it comes to making specialist factual documentaries.
