Biography

Don Boyd began his career at the BBC after graduating from the London Film School in 1970. He then directed over 40 commercials (Coca Cola, Chrysler etc) and two British feature films, Intimate Reflections and East of Elephant Rock starring John Hurt premiered at the London Film Festival in 1976. In the 1980’s he produced celebrated British films like Alan Clarke's Scum, Jarman’s The Tempest, Lindsay Anderson's Look Back In Anger, and the Palme D’Or nominated opera film Aria with Robert Altman, Nicolas Roeg, Jean-Luc Godard, Ken Russell and Derek Jarman. He then returned to his directorial career with Twenty One written by Zoe Heller, Kleptomania, Lucia and My Kingdom written by the Guardian’s Nick Davies starring Richard Harris and directed several documentaries including Andrew and Jeremy Get Married for BBC’s Storyville produced by Nick Fraser which was nominated for IDFA and premiered at TIFF. He is an Honorary Professor at the University of Exeter in the College of Humanities, was a Governor of the London Film School for 30 years and has been Artistic Director of www.hibrow.tv, the online platform for the arts where he has created over 200 hours of original arts programming including several feature documentaries premiered at several major festivals - Sundance, Telluride, London, New York, Melbourne, Karlovy Vary. He is preparing a feature film to direct set in Morocco (Beatrice and Her Father) and is writing a major drama series for production in 2017/18. He has written for The Guardian, Times, Sunday Times and The Independent. His novel Margot’s Secrets was published in 2011 and has been optioned for a film to be produced in 2018. He has lectured and delivered master classes at a broad range of institutions globally, including a roster on filmmaking for The Guardian in 2014/15.
