Adam Wimpenny

Adam is a television and film director whose work includes award-winning factual, entertainment, drama and BAFTA winning comedy shows.

Over the past 15 years Adam has made flag-ship shows for the BBC, ITV, Sky and Channel 4 and has worked with many of the UK’s most high profile television personalities. In that time he has directed an eclectic mix of popular series encompassing drama, comedy and entertainment. He has directed hundreds of hours of television and his work has been sold all over the world. His work puts an emphasis on bold, stylish story telling and cinematic visuals.

Adam has directed shows such as the BAFTA winning series ‘The Revolution Will be Televised’ for the BBC and Hattrick and the Netflix/ITV hit crime series ‘The Investigator’. He is also used to working with high profile names such as Jack Whitehall, Jodie Whittaker, Alan Carr, David Beckham, Derren Brown, Russell Tovey, Sharon Horgan, Jim Jeffries, Tom Burke, Samuel L. Jackson and Ricky Gervais.

Adam was profiled by Screen International as a ‘Star of Tomorrow’ and went on to direct his debut feature film BLACKWOOD that he made through his production company Wildcard Films which he runs with producers Adam Morne-Griffiths and Joe Hill. The supernatural thriller premiered at the London Film Festival and was released theatrically. The film has recently been sold to Universal and BBC America. 

Adam recently directed a comedy drama for Sky called ‘Behold The Monkey’. Shot in Spain with and narrated by Tamsin Greig (Episodes), the comedy drama was nominated for ‘best scripted programme’ at the Broadcast Awards and has been sold to Showtime and Canal+. Critics praised it for it’s creative visuals, strong performances and warmth.
Wildcard Films was set up to make the short film ROAR starring Russell Tovey and Jodie Whittaker which became part of the official selection at many of the worlds highest profile festivals, and won major jury awards at both Aspen and Rhode Island. It is now being developed into a TV series.
Adam’s follow-up comedy short film called ‘First Time’ was theatrically released through LionsGate ahead of the Werner Herzog’s movie ‘The Bad Lieutenant’.
Overlapping, Adam directed the ITV hit crime series ‘The Investigator’. Exec produced by Simon Cowell and his production company Syco the is now available as a Netflix Original series. He has also directed commercial campaigns for Sony, Freeview, Rosetta Stone, Coca-Cola, Stoptober and Visit Britain.
Adam is currently developing further feature films and scripted series with his partners at Wildcard Films.
