Biography
Paul Wilmshurst is an award-winning TV drama director, who also writes (and produces). Most recently he directed three episodes of the international thriller series DAY OF THE JACKAL, starring Eddie Redmayne and Lashana Lynch, made for Sky and Peacock. He also recently directed the opening four episodes of BELGRAVIA: THE NEXT CHAPTER for MGM+, and three episodes of THE LAST KINGDOM (season 5) for Netflix.
He has worked as a consultant in London and Peru on documentary series for Channel 4 and HBO, based on his considerable previous track record in documentary film-making. In recent years he has also directed episodes of STRIKE BACK for Left Bank and Sky/Cinemax (across five seasons), and two seasons of the Carnival series JAMESTOWN for Sky, as well as the final four episodes of C4's INDIAN SUMMERS, and three episodes of DOCTOR WHO (including the 2014 Christmas Special). His episodes of David S. Goyer’s DA VINCI’S DEMONS for Starz/BBC Worldwide broadcast in the UK and the US in 2013.
Paul has also directed a number of crime and children’s dramas, and has also written and directed one-off dramas about child runaways and child abuse, as well as writing and directing drama-documentaries about alcoholics, pseudocides, cocaine smugglers, the bombing of Hiroshima and the building of the Brooklyn Bridge; previously he made documentaries on a range of subjects (particularly crime, chance, race, weapons, psychology and identity).
He produced and directed the BAFTA-nominated children’s drama, COMBAT KIDS, and he has also directed episodes of Silent Witness, Trial & Retribution and Law & Order: UK.
