Biography
CHRISTOPHER SPENCER - Writer/Director Christopher Spencer has produced, directed and written a wide range of dramas and documentaries for broadcasters around the world including the BBC, Channel 4, HBO, Time-Warner, History, Discovery, PBS, National Geographic, TLC, NDR and Channel One Russia. His films span both the arts and sciences with presenters and actors including John Malkovitch, Donald Sutherland, Lord Robert Winston, Robert Hughes and Sir Chris Patten. He has over thirty long-form documentaries to his credit including the final episode of `The Human Body' described as `the most controversial documentary in television history’. The film witnessed the moment of death for the first time on TV. Later Robert Winston wrote, “The film Chris Spencer has made is most beautiful and deeply moving. Television, like ourselves, is mostly ephemeral but this is an unusually important film”. He has directed a number of drama–documentaries including the critically acclaimed Seven Wonders of the Industrial World. The Times: ‘…a ground-breaking achievement. At last a style has been conceived that attains the artistry of great drama with the faithfulness demanded of the honest documentary’ Christopher has also directed and written a number of factual dramas including 'Lusitania' starring John Hannah and Ken Cranham and Revolution with James D’Arcy – both for BBC1. As well as feature-length documentaries: 'Concorde’s Last Flight', 'Stonehenge Decoded' and 'Fighting the Red Baron'. His recent episodes of the highly-rating Bible mini-series were released as a major motion picture by 20th Century Fox in February 2014, titled `Son of God'. He has a number of awards and nominations including Originality and Best Factual BAFTAs, Royal Television Society, John Grierson nomination, International Monitor award, San Francisco Golden Gate Silver Spire Winner, Cine Golden Eagle and Glaxo Welcome Best Science Documentary.
