Biography
Nick Hamm, was resident director with the Royal Shakespeare Company from 1983 to 1988. He directed major productions in Europe and served as British Artistic Director of the Sadler's Wells Theatre Company. In 1989 he moved into television/ film, directing The Bottom Line, a documentary about the crisis of culture, featuring Arthur Miller and Dustin Hoffman.
In 1992, his 30-minute drama The Harmfulness of Tobacco, starring Edward Fox won the BAFTA Award for Best Short Film. He went on to direct Play on One for the BBC starring Catherine Zeta-Jones and Colin Firth. Followed by the highly acclaimed series Rik Mayall Presents for Granada, starring Helena Bonham Carter.
Hamm's first feature, Talk of Angels, made for Miramax, is an epic love story starring Vincent Perez and Polly Walker. His next feature was the romantic comedy Martha Meet Frank, Daniel and Laurence for Film Four/ Miramax starring Joseph Fiennes.
In 2001 he made for Pathé the highly original European cult movie The Hole starring Thora Birch and Keira Knightley. He then went on to make Godsend in 2004 starring Robert De Niro, made for Lions Gate Films.
With his London based company Greenroom Entertainment Ltd, Nick Produced in 2009 the successful BBC Three sitcom series Off The Hook and in 2010 he Produced and Directed his latest feature Killing Bono, starring Ben Barnes, Robert Sheehan and Pete Postlethwaite. A rock' n' roll comedy about two Irish brothers struggling to forge their path through the 1980's music scene in the shadow of their old school pals U2, it was released in the UK by Paramount Pictures in April 2011, and has since had international releases in France, Russia, South East Asia and North America.
In June 2011, Nick was appointed as the Head of Scripted at the newly formed Momentum Entertainment Group in Los Angeles. DirecTV have just commissioned the compelling 10 part crime drama series ROGUE which Hamm is co-producing with MEG, Greenroom Entertainment and EOne in Canada. Starring Thandie Newton, shooting is due to commence in Vancouver in August this year.
