Biography
André van Duren (1958) is Dutch film director. He directed Feature films, TV movies, series and commercials.
He studied Dutch literature and theatre science at the University of Utrecht. After 5 years of working as assistant director he started directing himself. His first film was the award winning TV film The story of young Kees.
He was awarded a Golden Calf twice for Called to the bar (TV serie) and Mariken his first long feature film. For Heading for England he won the press award at The Netherlands Film Festival and it was selected for the Berlin Film Festival. Mariken a family film, won several international awards (a.o. Montreal, Toronto).
He realized in 2003 the feature film Kees de jongen based on the famous novel by Theo Thijssen.
In 2011 he wrote and directed the feature film The Gang of Oss. It got 7 nominations for a Golden Calf and was awarded for Best Music. The Gang of Oss was also awarded at film festivals in Belgium and Argentina.
In 2012 he directed Zwarte Dagen of the Van God Los TV Serie. The series won the prestigious Nipkow award
In 2016 he wrote and directed the feature film “The Fury” based on a novel by A.F.Th. van der Heijden. It got 8 nominations for a Golden Calf. Winners: Hannah Hoekstra Best Actress and Anneke Blok Best Supporting Actress. Hannah Hoekstra was also awarded in Montreal as Best Actress.
In 2020 he directed a 90-minute episode of the English-language Van der Valk series for ITV. Blood in Amsterdam was shown in 75 countries.
The thriller Faithfully Yours was released in 2022. André was director and co-writer. It was released on Netflix in May 2023. The film had 60 million views and was in the Netflix top ten worldwide for 5 weeks.
