Biography
Gabriel Athanasiou is a London-based director with a passion for exploring the complexities of human nature, psychology, and generational trauma through film. A graduate of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki with a master’s in Film Directing and an alum of the New York Film Academy, Gabriel combines academic rigor with a keen sensitivity to the emotional depths of his characters.
His short film Astoria was nominated for Best Student Film at the Greek Film Academy Awards in 2022. He went on to be selected for Berlinale Talents in 2023, where he honed his craft among a global community of emerging talent.
As an artist, Gabriel delves into the inherited trauma passed through generations, focusing on how it shapes relationships and identities. His commercial work, while varied in style, retains his signature psychological depth and attention to human emotion, making each project visually compelling and narratively rich.
Through both his films and commercials, Gabriel continues to challenge audiences by exploring universal themes in uniquely personal ways.
