Amal Al-Agroobi is a film director, producer and writer. Her film career began in 2012 with her short documentary 'Half Emirati', a social exploration of mixed marriages, she then went on to make a feature documentary 'The Brain That Sings' (2013) which won multiple awards worldwide. She continued to make short visual art films and documentaries until she directed her debut short fictional dramedy, 'Under the hat' in 2016. Since February 2016 Amal has focused on scriptwriting, having written 8 scripts over one year, she is now in development with a fictional Horror co-production with Sweden, a television show with a London based producer and a historical archival documentary, which is already in production. Amal’s passion lies predominantly in themes of social injustice with character-driven stories that discuss identity, personality and the understanding of human character.
Amal is an Arab speaker and works closely with the UAE, Qatar and Saudi Arabia.
