Biography
Funkẹ is a Manchester-based, award-winning Filmmaker with a passion for visual storytelling. She enjoys telling culturally-relevant and engaging stories that challenge and inspire. Funkẹ’s short films have screened globally, including at BIFA, BAFTA and Oscar-qualifying festivals. Her first short film, HATIMA, was funded by Bumble’s inaugural Female Film Force competition. Most recently, she was commissioned by New Creatives to write and direct her magical-realism short, EVERYTHING’S FINE, which screened at festivals and as part of a special anthology programme on BBC4, and is currently available on BBC platforms.
Funkẹ has participated in talent development schemes including Edinburgh TV Festival's "The Network" 2023, Other Cinemas Film Collective 2020-21, Kyoto Filmmakers Lab 2021/22, Momentum 2022 (We Are Parable/Channel4) and Directors Workshop 2022 (BFI Film Hub North/NFTS Leeds). She has been a director mentee on 'SIX FOUR', a 4-part HETV show for ITVX; and 'LOCKED IN', a studio feature film due for release in 2023. Funkẹ has recently been added to the Shore Scripts Director Roster and invited to be a BAFTA Connect Member.
