Biography

Katia Shannon writes and directs heartfelt stories about love and adversity for film and tv. Her award-winning films have received international accolades, playing at Oscar, BAFTA, Bifa and CSA Qualifying festivals including, HollyShorts, Calgary, Whistler, Carmarthen Bay and Underwire, among others.Her first short, Standstill, is streaming on Omeleto with 50K+ views, and 3M+ views on TikTok. Her latest is the BFI NETWORK-funded narrative short, Us & in Between, currently in distribution.Katia graduated from Concordia University in Film Production, with an award for outstanding achievement in filmmaking. She was selected for the 2020 Netflix x BANFF Diversity of Voices Initiative and the 2022 Disability Screen Office cohort at Content Canada. Previously, she led the film commission for the Laurentides region and edited award-winning and internationally broadcast feature documentaries.Katia is a keen photographer and uses her grandfather's canon AE-1 to experiment aesthetically, informing the visual landscape of her films.
