We are pleased to be collaborating with Stage Directors UK (SDUK), ScreenSkills and Lime Pictures on From Stage to (small) Screen - an opportunity for two stage directors to train in directing for TV.
The training is being funded by the David Fraser and Andrea Wonfor Bursary, which was established to enable theatre directors to acquire the skills to direct television drama. Previous recipients have worked on drama series including Doctors, Emmerdale, EastEnders and Coronation Street.
The opportunity has been designed to help freelance stage directors’ careers become more resilient, and to expand and challenge their creativity while providing practical experience and a TV directing credit, which will help them to move forward in their career.
Four shortlisted candidates will spend a day on the set of Hollyoaks training, shooting, and editing a scene. Two successful candidates will then receive full training and go on to direct their first episode of narrative television.
The opportunity is open exclusively to full members of SDUK. Members of SDUK can log into the SDUK members’ area to find out more.
Andrea Corbett, Head of Career Development and Skills at Directors UK said:
“It’s brilliant to celebrate the relationship between SDUK and Directors UK for the first time with a project that offers opportunity and career progression. The successful stage directors will have a vital TV credit to their name, and we know that this is what is needed to enable them to build a diverse, and importantly, sustainable, career working across theatre and TV. Thank you to the commitment of Lime Pictures in supporting new talent, and to ScreenSkills for supporting this collaboration.”
