Encounters, the UK’s leading short film and animation festival, is taking place next week and Directors UK is delighted to be the official main partner for the Widening the Lens Competition, a major new initiative forming part of the festival.
Widening the Lens is a pitching competition for short films addressing diversity. The new initiative, open to filmmakers from under-represented groups, aims to help tackle the lack of diversity within the film industry both in front of and behind the camera, and create an exciting opportunity for new and emerging filmmakers, offering them invaluable professional development.
The winner of the Widening the Lens Award will be presented by Abigail Berry, Directors UK Member Services and Events Manager, as part of the prestigious Encounters Festival Awards Ceremony on Saturday 24 September.
Encounters takes place in Bristol between 20-25 September and Directors UK members are able to buy a Festival Pass at a special discounted rate. The Festival Pass enables you to book free tickets to all film screenings, International Competition screenings and events, as well as claim a 20% discount on main Gala events.
Directors UK members: go to the Benefits & Offers page to buy your discounted Festival Pass.
At 3pm on Friday 23 September, Ali Bailey, Head of Campaigning at Directors UK, will be joining a panel of experts to discuss how we tackle diversity ethics within film and filmmaking practice.
Entry to this panel is free with a Festival Pass. Go to the Encounters website to book your place.
