You & Me: Paid Placement Opportunity with Happy Prince and ITV Studios

Happy Prince and ITV Studios, in partnership with Directors UK, are pleased to announce an exciting new paid placement for a Director of Colour. Addressing the underrepresentation of directors of colour in scripted television, the opportunity will be on the new scripted drama, You & Me, for ITV.

The successful applicant will have the opportunity to learn from Tom Vaughan, who is directing all episodes of the drama. Applicants must be Full or Associate members of Directors UK.

You & Me is a story about finding love when you least expect it. Jess, Ben and Emma all experience tragedies they feel they will never overcome – Ben has the worst time of his life on the day he becomes a father, Jess misses a bus and changes her life forever, and the day Emma gets offered her dream job her nightmare begins... Can they find hope and love again in the future - or will the past always keep holding them back? A romantic comedy drama with all the hooks and twists of a thriller, You & Me is told over two separate timelines as we see the story of before and after those fateful days for Ben, Jess and Emma.

The placement director will join Tom in the last few weeks of pre-production, and over the course of a 10-week placement will become embedded into the production and throughout filming, learning from Tom and the other HODs. The director will receive payment for their contribution and participation in the programme.

PLEASE NOTE: Applicants are not guaranteed a role at the end of the scheme and all applications for future directing roles will be considered solely on merit.

This opportunity is permitted as Positive Action within the 2010 Equalities Act and acknowledges the under-representation of directors of colour currently working in the TV industry (Source – Adjusting the Colour Balance, Directors UK, September 2018).

Location:

The production of You & Me is based mainly in South-East London and is filmed entirely on location. Whilst daily travel expenses to set will be provided, accommodation is not included. Directors UK may be able to offer a contribution towards living costs.

Under current COVID restrictions, guidelines and protocols, the production is being strictly carried out in accordance with industry guidelines.

Dates:

Tech recces will take place in the week commencing 9 May 2022. Principal photography will run from 23 May 2022 through to 15 July 2022. These dates may be subject to change but please ensure you are available for this period. There can be flexibility for other commitments.
