As a director, you have a responsibility to consider the safeguarding of your cast and crew, whoever they are and whatever their role.
You also need to consider your own safeguarding. It is vital that everyone working with you knows you are following correct procedures and that you take your duty of care seriously. This is never more important than when working directly or indirectly around children — the best way to achieve this is ensuring you are supported by the correct tools and frameworks.
Aimed at directors working with, or aspiring to work with, under 18s as their main or supporting cast, this session will practically bring together the Department for Education’s Child Performance Regulations and the full production process. We will also look at the Children’s Regulations and Local Authority requirements and how to interpret these in practical terms as a director.
This session will be facilitated by The Children’s Productions Support Hub founder Arlene de Cruz and award-winning drama and documentary writer-director Claire Tailyour. As well as moderating the discussion, Claire will provide insight to her own experiences of working with and directing under 18s on programmes such as the BBC/Netflix teen series Phoenix Rise.
