Introducing the ScreenSkills Regional Directors Champion Programme, in association with Directors UK
We’ve partnered with ScreenSkills on an exciting opportunity to support three experienced and established directors (or champions) to mentor three directors new to High-end TV drama (HETV) across the regions.
About the programme
This programme aims to support and grow the careers of three emerging regional directors new to HETV, living in the North East, North West, Yorkshire, East Midlands, West Midlands, East of England, South West, or South East.
These three directors will receive individual guidance and attention from their champions — who will provide the benefit of their experience in HETV — and will also connect with the wider industry for additional training elements such as CV writing, finding an agent, and networking to enhance their success.
This opportunity is supported by the ScreenSkills’ High-end TV Skills Fund following a successful tender application from Directors UK, with contributions from UK High-end TV productions.
Applications for emerging directors will open in the early 2025. We are now looking for expressions of interests from potential champions — find out more below.
Could you be a champion for directors in your region?
Do you want to make a difference to the careers of emerging directors in your region or a region you associate closely with? We’re now open for applications of interest from anyone interested in being a champion on the ScreenSkills Regional Directors Champion Programme, in association with Directors UK.
What is a Champion?
You will work closely with Directors UK to identify an emerging director to mentor from a pool of applicants and work with them over the course of 12-18 months to support their career development. This could include setting up introductory meetings; networking; meetings with production companies and/or producers and commissioners; set visits and shadowing. You will be encouraged alongside your mentee to create a plan that is flexible and adapted to the needs of the partnership.
Directors UK will support your mentoring journey and is experienced in running mentoring training and ongoing professional development.
This is an unpaid position but there is a budget for your expenses (accommodation, travel, and other eventualities).
