Directors UK has launched a unique new training initiative, developed in conjunction with Creative Skillset and the country’s top multi-camera practitioners and trainers, to raise the bar for excellence in multi-camera directing.
Starting from today, six participants will undergo two weeks of intensive training at The London Studios and the world-renowned Pinewood Studios, where they will learn all the theory and practical aspects of multi-camera directing. The young directors taking part are Jan Genesis, Lewis Wright, Paul Caslin, Abigail Dankwa, Kelly Sparks and Dionne Weston.
The course will include workshops in multi-camera directing across a variety of production genres including light entertainment, music, news, sports, events, comedy and game shows, as well as interviews and dialogue segments, instructions in camera scripting, event planning, and a unique chance to direct their own signature show at the end of the course.
The delegates will also get an opportunity to watch directors in action at The Graham Norton Show and during the filming of a music video.
Workshops and classes will be provided by some of the UK’s most renowned directors, including:
- Steve Smith, director of The Graham Norton Show, The John Bishop Show and A League of Their Own
- Jane Elsdon‐Dew, director of Something For The Weekend and Ready Steady Cook
- Geoff Posner, producer and director of Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps, Little Britain, The Prince’s Trust 30th Birthday: Live
- Tony Gregory, director of Top Of The Pops, several Derren Brown programmes and Space Cadets
- Ian Russell, producer and director of the BBC Proms, Tsunami: Ten Years On and The Virgin Killer
- Glenn Barton, producer and director of Crufts and the State Opening of Parliament
The initiative aims to provide participants with the most comprehensive and up-to-date creative, editorial and technical knowledge, to become one of the next generation’s most prominent multi-camera directors.
We’ll be introducing you to the six participants over the next two weeks, asking them about the course and what they’ve learnt. Look out for the first report later this week.
