Focus On: Using Generative AI in Film and TV with Colin Byrne

Over the past 18 months, generative AI tools have evolved from intriguing innovations to practical tools for filmmakers. Despite the controversy surrounding their use, they are rapidly becoming essential production utilities, enabling creative ideas to be brought to life faster and more efficiently than ever before.

Our Career Development and Skills team welcome back Factual and Factual-Entertainment producer, Colin Byrne, who will be facilitating this workshop for 12 Full and Associate members of Directors UK.

When: Wednesday 23 October, 10am — 1pm

Where: Hybrid — sucessful applicants will be able to take part either online or in person at our office

Making Generative AI accessible

With a focus on generative images and generative video, this hands-on, interactive workshop is a deep-dive into the practical applications of generative AI. The workshop will demonstrate various techniques and AI workflows that are directly relevant to directors and can be readily applied to the filmmaking process. From pitching and storyboarding using generative images, through to previs and VFX using the latest generative video, audio, and 3D tools, this session will offer insights on how to seamlessly incorporate AI into existing creative processes.

Participants will be introduced to diffusion models and receive an overview of the generative AI tools currently being used. There will be step-by-step guidance on creating images as well as moving pictures. Those involved will have the opportunity to experiment and create their own images as well as discuss further topics related to AI.

The goal of this workshop is to demonstrate that the barrier to entry for using generative AI in film production is lower than it might seem. These tools are surprisingly accessible and intuitive, and can be integrated seamlessly into existing creative processes.
