Giving and receiving feedback is pivotal to successful and creative collaborations, whether engaging with your cast, crew, HODs or interacting with execs and commissioners.
In this part-theory, part-practical workshop for Full and Associate members, session leader Margaret Glover will explore the key components of offering and receiving feedback, focusing on attention and appreciation — fundamental soft skills for any director that are often overlooked.
Using principles from author and public speaker Nancy Kline’s Thinking Environment, this workshop will explore:
• How collaborative feedback can improve your work as a director and help you build successful creative partnerships
• When, where and with whom attention and appreciation can have the greatest impact
• How these skills can fuel your professional growth and develop your career strategy.
Participants will take part in small group exercises that involve informal storytelling, offering and receiving collaborative feedback, as well as open discussion and reflections on good practice.
This workshop is relevant to members of all genres and experience levels.

About Margaret Glover
Margaret began her career as a dramaturg. Her professional practice is rooted in everything she learned in the rehearsal room while observing directors in collaboration with writers, actors and designers. She’s lived in London for 35 years, during which time she’s worked in UK TV, oversaw development through delivery of graduation films at London Film School, as well as serving as Interim Course Leader on MA Filmmaking.
Her film credits include co-writer and co-producer on Ahmed Al Daradji’s award-winning debut feature Hanging Gardens, which premiered at Venice in 2022.
Training as a Time to Think facilitator reinforced an innate understanding of ‘transformative listening’ as the basis of any truly collaborative and generative relationship.
