DIRECTORS UK PARTNERS WITH TELEVISUAL FOR PANEL SESSION FOR THE TELEVISUAL FACTUAL FESTIVAL 2016

31 October 2016

Directors UK is delighted to announce it will be closing this year’s Televisual Factual Festival with an exclusive session on directing factual entertainment.

Directors UK, the professional association for British screen directors, will be hosting a panel session exploring the directors’ role when shooting a television show.

The session will look at the creative leadership of the director when making factual entertainment, and examine the various aspects of a director’s input and responsibilities when planning a shoot; such as negotiating access and casting, how to get the best from people in front of the camera and the time spent structuring the show in the cutting room.

Taking part in the panel will be three of the UK’s most in demand directors in television; Alice Wheater (The Undateables, Kitchen Impossible with Michel Roux Jr), Heenan Bhatti (Derren Brown Investigates, Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares) and Barnaby Coughlin (Posh People: Inside Tatler, Seven Dwarves). They will share their experiences of working on some of the biggest factual entertainment programmes, including the way they approach a new project, and how they are able to give voice to an idea and create a definitive tone for a programme.  The session will be moderated by Directors UK Factual Chair Nic Guttridge (Rich Kids of Instagram, The People’s Medal & Wife Swap).

Laura Adams, Head of Member Services at Directors UK said: “We’re pleased to be working with Televisual and The Factual Festival to offer such a distinctive session to UK filmmakers. The festival is a great opportunity for our members and filmmakers to network, learn about new developments and trends, and gain an insight into other areas of the industry. As well as gaining vital knowledge from the sessions and events, directors have an opportunity to create and build connections with production companies and commissioners, which we hope will lead to new opportunities in the future.”

Taking place on Thursday 10th November 2016, at 16:00, as part of Televisual Factual Festival. This session will be followed by a drinks reception to close the festival.

The Televisual Factual Festival is the UK’s leading business forum for factual television producers and film-makers, on Wednesday 9th and Thursday 10th November 2016.

Passes for the whole festival are available to purchase from the Televisual Factual Festival site, www.televisual.com/festival
