Biography
Tina Gharavi is an screenwriter and director, known for delivering authentic stories lensed with an impeccably wrought perspective. Born in Tehran just before the Islamic Revolution, she spent her formative years in the UK and The United States, later studying and settling in Paris, France. Having worked in war zones and in guerrilla filmmaking, Gharavi marries her indomitable spirit with a distinct talent to deliver performances and manage beautifully observed stories. Her breakout feature, I Am Nasrine, earned a BAFTA nod for its powerful portrayal of exile. Gharavi’s fearless work spans Netflix’s Queen Cleopatra and her upcoming third feature, Virginia Woolf’s Night & Day starring Tim Spall, Lily Allen and Haley Bennett. As showrunner, Gharavi is is developing, Refurinn AKA The Fox, a scandi-noir TV series set in Iceland; an adaptation of a best-selling crime series. Founder of Bridge + Tunnel Productions and a professor at Newcastle University, she champions underrepresented voices but in her spare time she dreams of beekeeping in Iran. Represented by Independent Talent in the UK and Gersh in Los Angeles, Gharavi divides her time between the UK and Paris.
