Miranda Howard-Williams

Miranda is a director working in television drama with a portfolio of award winning short films.

​Miranda's episodes of flagship BBC One period drama Father Brown aired in Spring 2023 including the high-stakes finale. The series is sold to over 230 territories worldwide. Miranda will be returning to Kembleford again this year. 
Last year she directed two of the final episodes of Holby City and is proud to have been able to join this fab show before it finished forever. Previously she helmed a block of five episodes of Hollyoaks for Lime Pictures where she enjoyed getting to add to the body count of the soap with the highest death rate in the UK! 


In the height of Lockdown Two, Miranda directed two episodes of Casualty for the BBC, where she got to set fire to someone, nearly crash a train and shoot on a houseboat all within very strict COVID restrictions! 


She has also directed a block of BBC detective drama Shakespeare and Hathaway on location in Stratford-upon-Avon and she was a returning director on flagship daytime drama Doctors- after gaining a place on the coveted BBC New Directors Scheme a couple of years ago. 

​Miranda's award winning short films explore a range of social issues, from homelessness to the impact of porn on teenagers. Her latest short Evie, which she also wrote, forms the pilot for a near-future TV series that's in development. It premiered at Encounters Film Festival and won Best SciFi Short at Rhode Island Film Festival. 
Miranda attended the Berlinale Talent Lab as a writer/director and is a member of BAFTA CONNECT for emerging talent. Always looking for ways to learn and to develop her skills Miranda has shadowed directors SJ Clarkson, Patrick Harkins, Mike Newell and, through the Directors UK Inspire Scheme, Euros Lyn. Miranda is an active member of Directors UK and sits on their Access and Inclusion Committee. 

​Academically, Miranda has a MA (2.1 Hons) in Social and Political Sciences from Cambridge University where she received a scholarship for her studies. She also has an MA with Merit in Directing for Film and TV from the University of Westminster, for which she was awarded a full academic scholarship.
